paiN RELIEF & sports medicine with ACUPUNCTURE
Pain and injury are not limited to athletes. Many people seek acupuncture for neck and back tension from long workdays, repetitive strain injuries, postural imbalances, or recovery after surgery or illness. Whether the goal is returning to sport, moving comfortably through daily life, or preventing recurring injury, treatment focuses on restoring healthy movement and supporting the body’s natural healing process.
Guided by Traditional Chinese Medicine principles and hands-on palpation, treatments are designed to address both immediate pain and the underlying patterns contributing to it. Care may include acupuncture, trigger point and motor point stimulation, electro-acupuncture, and individualized lifestyle recommendations to support lasting change.
By improving circulation, calming the nervous system, and reducing inflammation, acupuncture can help shorten recovery time, improve mobility, and support resilience in muscles, joints, and connective tissue.
Acupuncture may be helpful for:
acute or chronic pain
muscle tension and postural strain
sports and overuse injuries
tendonitis and ligament sprains
TMJ and tension headaches
nerve irritation or neuropathy
low back pain and sciatica
shoulder, knee, or hip dysfunction.
Benefits of Treatment May Include
Injury recovery & pain relief — supports healing by improving circulation and reducing inflammation in injured muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Improved mobility & flexibility — releases muscle tension so joints can move freely and safely.
Enhanced performance and recovery — helps muscles activate efficiently and reduces compensation patterns that may increase risk of reinjury.
Support for chronic or recurring injuries — addresses concerns such as tendonitis, muscle strains, sprains, runner’s knee, tennis elbow, and persistent low back pain.
While Traditional Chinese Medicine guides diagnosis and overall treatment strategy, additional techniques such as trigger point therapy, motor point stimulation, and electro-acupuncture may be incorporated when appropriate to support muscle recovery, nerve function, and lasting relief.
These approaches allow treatment to address both the broader patterns affecting health and the specific areas of tension or injury contributing to discomfort.
TRIGGER POINTS + MOTOR POINTS
What is a trigger point?
A trigger point is a small, hyperactive band of muscle fiber — often felt as a “knot.”
These knots develop from overuse, repetitive strain, or injury, preventing the muscle from expanding and contracting normally.
Trigger points can cause pain, tension, tingling, numbness, or headaches and may limit range of motion.
They can also create referred pain, meaning discomfort felt in a different area than where the knot is located.
Releasing trigger points helps relax tight muscles, improve blood flow, and restore normal function.
What is a motor point?
A motor point is the exact spot where a nerve enters a muscle and “tells” it to contract.
When muscles are injured or overused, their firing pattern can become weak or uncoordinated.
Stimulating the motor point with acupuncture helps reset and re-activate the muscle, so it can work efficiently again.
This improves muscle balance, reduces compensation patterns, and protects surrounding joints and tissues.
ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE
What is E-stim?
Involves the application of a mild electrical current to acupuncture needles that are inserted at appropriate points.
It can be used in conjunction with traditional acupuncture to enhance treatment effectiveness.
How does it help?
Electro-acupuncture stimulates the nerves and promotes the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, while also improving circulation and promoting healing in affected areas.
Studies have reported a better quality of life and decrease in pain score in those receiving acupuncture treatment to improve symptoms of peripheral neuropathy from chemotherapy.
*E-stim is not appropriate for those who have a heart condition or pace-maker.
