DRY NEEDLING + TRIGGER POINT ACUPUNCTURE

What is dry needling?

  • Dry needling is a specific way of using acupuncture to relieve pain caused by inhibited trigger and motor points.

What is a trigger point?

  • Trigger points are hyperactive bands in your muscle also known as “knots”

  • These knots are created through overuse or injury which can inhibit muscle fibers from being able to expand and contract properly.

  • These knots often correlate to pain, tension, tingling or numbness that can lead to limited range of motion, headaches and referred pain.

What is a motor point?

  • Motor points are specific anatomical areas on muscle where the nerve enters the muscle and give it energy to respond and contract.

How does it help?

  • By stimulating a trigger point you relax the muscle which allows it to expand and contract with ease.

  • Contraction of the muscle increases blood flow to the area and triggers the body’s own healing mechanisms.

  • Stimulating motor points can reset muscles that are overactive or underactive and assist them to fire properly.

  • Both facilitate healing and recovery in tired, tight, and injured muscles and reduce strain on tendons and joints.

ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE

What is E-stim?

  • Needles are inserted at trigger and motor points in tandem with an electrical impulse (e-stim) for about 30 minutes.

How does it help?

  • E-stim encourages a muscle to fire properly. and alleviates acute and chronic pain at appropriate myofascial points.

It is important to note that studies have shown that duration of treatment has a statistically significant impact on treatment outcomes with best results in treatment sessions longer than 15 minutes.

*E-stim is not appropriate for those who have a heart condition or pace-maker.
