SPORTS ACUPUNCTURE
Sports acupuncture focuses on helping athletes and active individuals recover from injury, improve performance, and prevent future strain.
Treatments combine traditional acupuncture with techniques like trigger point and motor point stimulation to release tight muscles, restore healthy movement patterns, and support optimal healing.
By improving circulation and reducing inflammation, sports acupuncture may shorten recovery time, increase flexibility, and keep joints and soft tissues resilient under repetitive or high-intensity loads.
Benefits of sports acupuncture may include:
Injury recovery & pain relief — reduces inflammation and speeds healing of overused or injured muscles, tendons, and ligaments.
Improved mobility & flexibility — releases muscle tension so joints move freely and safely.
Enhanced athletic performance — helps muscles activate correctly and reduces risk of re-injury during training or competition.
Support for chronic sports injuries — addresses issues like tendonitis, muscle strains, sprains, runner’s knee, tennis elbow, and low back pain.
TRIGGER POINTS + MOTOR POINTS
What is a trigger point?
A trigger point is a small, hyperactive band of muscle fiber — often felt as a “knot.”
These knots develop from overuse, repetitive strain, or injury, preventing the muscle from expanding and contracting normally.
Trigger points can cause pain, tension, tingling, numbness, or headaches and may limit range of motion.
They can also create referred pain, meaning discomfort felt in a different area than where the knot is located.
Releasing trigger points helps relax tight muscles, improve blood flow, and restore normal function.
What is a motor point?
A motor point is the exact spot where a nerve enters a muscle and “tells” it to contract.
When muscles are injured or overused, their firing pattern can become weak or uncoordinated.
Stimulating the motor point with acupuncture helps reset and re-activate the muscle, so it can work efficiently again.
This improves muscle balance, reduces compensation patterns, and protects surrounding joints and tissues.
ELECTRO-ACUPUNCTURE
What is E-stim?
Involves the application of a mild electrical current to acupuncture needles that are inserted at appropriate points.
It can be used in conjunction with traditional acupuncture to enhance treatment effectiveness.
How does it help?
Electro-acupuncture stimulates the nerves and promotes the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, while also improving circulation and promoting healing in affected areas.
Studies have reported a better quality of life and decrease in pain score in those receiving acupuncture treatment to improve symptoms of peripheral neuropathy from chemotherapy.
*E-stim is not appropriate for those who have a heart condition or pace-maker.
